Executive Producers of ‘The People Speak’ Confirmed for History Makers

History Makers 2010 is proud to announce that  Chris Moore and Anthony Arnove, co-Executive Producers and Co-Directors of HISTORY US' s 2 hour Special, The People Speak, will be presenting a Master Class entitled “Hollywood and History

Inspired by Howard Zinn’s iconic books, “A People’s History of the United States” and “Voices of a People’s History,” The People Speak presents a view of American history in motion, telling the stories of ordinary men and women who have defined democracy - through live celebrity performances of historic letters and documents that succinctly illustrate the impact that “We the People” have had on the evolution of democracy. The program features performers such as Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Viggo Mortensen, Marisa Tomei, and Bruce Springsteen.

Equally informative and entertaining, Arnove and Moore will be on hand to discuss both the historical and the production aspects of the work.

Daniel Goldhagen announced as Keynote Speaker

Daniel Goldhagen, international bestselling author and Triennial Democracy Prize winner, has been confirmed as Keynote speaker at the upcoming History Makers Conference. Goldhagen, whose most recent work Worse Than War: Genocide, Eliminationism, and the Ongoing Assault on Humanity, is both a book and a feature-length documentary (produced by JTN Productions and WNET/13 for PBS), will be on hand to discuss the making of the film.

Worse than War is an important documentary that addresses the phenomenon of genocide and mass killing in our time. He will explore the challenges of turning his complicated book on a complex and sprawling subject into a tight, analytical, emotionally gripping, and cinematic film. Showing clips from the film, which include riveting testimony from perpetrators, he will shed light on the production process and its result.

New Master Class with David Grubin Announced

History Makers 2010 will be previewing the latest project  from award winning filmmaker David Grubin entitled The Buddha. A two-hour documentary, The Buddha, tells the story of the mysterious Indian sage who attained enlightenment as he sat beneath a fig tree two-and-a-half millennia ago.   The documentary is woven through with animation and draws upon the images found in paintings and sculptures throughout those two millennia by some of the world’s greatest artists. 

The film also highlights fragments of the Buddha’s world still present in India today.  Grubin will be presenting clips from the upcoming film as well as convening a brief discussion during Master Class with David Grubin.
